Payment Processing: All payments are processed securely by Stripe, Inc., a licensed money transmitter. Holdyn does not hold or custody user funds.
Transaction Fees: 2.5% on the first $20,000 of the transaction and 1.5% on any amount above, with a $10 minimum per transaction. Stripe processing costs are passed through separately and never absorbed by Holdyn. Earned once the transaction is active and the block is funded; the full agreed amount is always held. A sender-borne share is charged at funding on top of the block; a beneficiary-borne share is retained against the block and deducted on whatever disbursement occurs, including funds returned to the sender, so the sender may receive back less than they funded. Reimbursable while a transaction is Pending or In Review; non-refundable once Active (including in the event of a dispute) — reimbursements credit the wallet of the party who bore the fee. For multi-stage transactions using fund-per-payment, the fee is charged as each tranche is secured, calculated on the cumulative amount funded, so the total across all tranches equals the fee on the full transaction amount. Topping up your wallet carries no Holdyn fee; your bank’s or Stripe’s own charges still apply. Released funds always settle to the Beneficiary’s Holdyn Wallet first; from the wallet, standard withdrawal is 0.5% to a US bank in USD ($1 minimum) or 1.5% where the payout crosses a border or is currency-converted ($5 minimum), both with no cap and taking 1–3 business days. Express (instant) withdrawal is 1.5%, no cap, for US destinations only, landing in minutes. The minimum withdrawal is $25. Withdrawal to a bank account is available in supported countries only. Wallet transfers are free. FX conversion on non-USD wallet top-ups or withdrawals: the mid-market rate plus 1.5%.
Pricing FAQ
Who pays the fees?
By default, the sender pays. When creating a transaction you can choose who covers the fee: the sender, the beneficiary, or split 50/50 between both parties. The fee amount is always fixed when funds are first secured, whoever bears it. The full agreed amount is always held — the fee never reduces it. If the sender covers it, the fee is charged at funding on top of the amount, so a $1,000 transaction takes $1,025 from the wallet and holds $1,000. If the beneficiary covers it, $1,000 is held and the $25 comes out when the money leaves: released, the beneficiary receives $975; returned to the sender for any reason, the fee still comes out and the sender receives $975. Both parties see the full breakdown before the transaction starts.
When is the fee charged?
The fee is earned once the transaction is active and the block is funded, and its amount is locked at that moment. For single-stage transactions and 'fund all upfront' deals, that happens once at funding. For multi-stage transactions using 'fund per payment' (and recurring transactions using 'per payment event' funding), it applies as each payment is funded, and never for money that hasn't been funded yet. A sender-borne share is charged at funding, on top of the block; a beneficiary-borne share is deducted when that block is disbursed. The fee is calculated on the running total, so the total across all stages is exactly what the same amount would have cost funded in one go.
How does the two-tier fee actually work?
2.5% applies to the first $20,000 of the transaction amount and 1.5% applies to anything above that — so a $50,000 deal pays 2.5% × $20k + 1.5% × $30k = $950. A $10 minimum kicks in only for very small transactions where 2.5% would be less than $10. Stripe processing costs are passed through separately and are never absorbed by Holdyn.
Can I get my fee refunded if the transaction is cancelled?
Yes, while the transaction is in Pending or In Review — the Holdyn fee is fully reimbursed to the wallet of the party who paid it. Once the transaction becomes Active, the fee is non-refundable, including in the event of a dispute. The protected principal is returned to the Sender according to dispute resolution or cancellation outcomes regardless.
How does the Beneficiary actually get the money?
Every release lands in the Beneficiary's Holdyn Wallet first — there's no direct-to-bank release. From the wallet, the Beneficiary chooses when to withdraw. The rate depends on where the money is going: 0.5% to a US bank in USD ($1 minimum), or 1.5% where the payout crosses a border or needs a currency conversion ($5 minimum) — both with no cap, and decided by the destination bank's country, not your residence. The smallest withdrawal is $25. Express (instant) withdrawal is 1.5%, no cap, for US destinations only. Wallet-to-wallet transfers between Holdyn users are free if the Beneficiary wants to forward funds without cashing out. Payouts currently reach 33 countries — the US, UK, Canada, Switzerland and the EEA (excluding Iceland). See the Supported Countries page for the full list.
Are international payments supported?
Yes. All transactions on Holdyn are denominated in USD, but you can fund your wallet from any major supported currency (EUR, GBP, CAD, JPY, and others) — conversion to USD happens automatically at the mid-market rate plus a 1.5% FX fee. The Protected Transaction fee schedule (2.5% on the first $20k, 1.5% above, $10 minimum) applies the same way regardless of where the parties are located.
Is there a minimum transaction amount?
Yes. The minimum amount per Protected Transaction is $1 USD (or equivalent). The minimum wallet top-up is $10 USD. The minimum withdrawal is $25 USD. These minimums exist to keep fees economical and to defend against abuse.
Do you have B2B / API pricing?
Holdyn offers a B2B API at api.holdyn.io for businesses that want to embed Protected Transactions into their own products. Pricing is custom and depends on volume, settlement currency, and feature set (e.g., dedicated webhook endpoints, sandbox environments). Get in touch via the Contact page for a tailored quote.
