Transaction Fees: 2.5% on the first $20,000 of the transaction and 1.5% on any amount above, with a $10 minimum per transaction. Stripe processing costs are passed through separately and never absorbed by Holdyn. Charged when funds are first secured. Reimbursable while a transaction is Pending or In Review; non-refundable once Active (including in the event of a dispute) — reimbursements credit the wallet of the party who bore the fee. For multi-stage transactions using fund-per-payment, the fee applies to each tranche as it’s secured. Wallet charges have no Holdyn fee. Released funds always settle to the Beneficiary’s Holdyn Wallet first; from the wallet, Standard withdraw is 0.5% (capped $15, 1–3 business days) and Express withdraw is 1.5% (no cap, lands in minutes). Wallet transfers are free. FX conversion on non-USD wallet top-ups or withdrawals: 1.5%.
Pricing FAQ
Who pays the fees?
By default, the sender pays. However, when creating a transaction you can choose who covers the fee: the sender, the beneficiary (deducted from the released amount), or split 50/50 between both parties.
When is the fee charged?
The Protected Transaction fee is charged when funds are first secured. For single-stage transactions and 'fund all upfront' deals, this means once at funding. For multi-stage transactions using 'fund per payment' (and recurring transactions using 'per payment event' funding), the fee applies to each tranche as it's secured.
How does the two-tier fee actually work?
2.5% applies to the first $20,000 of the transaction amount and 1.5% applies to anything above that — so a $50,000 deal pays 2.5% × $20k + 1.5% × $30k = $950. A $10 minimum kicks in only for very small transactions where 2.5% would be less than $10. Stripe processing costs are passed through separately and are never absorbed by Holdyn.
Can I get my fee refunded if the transaction is cancelled?
Yes, while the transaction is in Pending or In Review — the Holdyn fee is fully reimbursed to the wallet of the party who paid it. Once the transaction becomes Active, the fee is non-refundable, including in the event of a dispute. The protected principal is returned to the Sender according to dispute resolution or cancellation outcomes regardless.
How does the Beneficiary actually get the money?
Every release lands in the Beneficiary's Holdyn Wallet first — there's no direct-to-bank release. From the wallet, the Beneficiary chooses when to withdraw: Standard (0.5%, capped $15, settles in 1–3 business days) or Express (1.5%, no cap, lands in minutes on a supported debit card). Wallet-to-wallet transfers between Holdyn users are free if the Beneficiary wants to forward funds without cashing out.
Are international payments supported?
Yes. All transactions on Holdyn are denominated in USD, but you can fund your wallet from any major supported currency (EUR, GBP, CAD, JPY, and others) — conversion to USD happens automatically at the mid-market rate plus a 1.5% FX fee. The Protected Transaction fee schedule (2.5% on the first $20k, 1.5% above, $10 minimum) applies the same way regardless of where the parties are located.
Is there a minimum transaction amount?
Yes. The minimum amount per Protected Transaction is $1 USD (or equivalent). The minimum wallet top-up is $10 USD. Minimum withdrawal is $5 USD. These minimums exist to keep fees economical and to defend against card-testing abuse.
Do you have B2B / API pricing?
Holdyn offers a B2B API at api.holdyn.io for businesses that want to embed Protected Transactions into their own products. Pricing is custom and depends on volume, settlement currency, and feature set (e.g., dedicated webhook endpoints, sandbox environments). Get in touch via the Contact page for a tailored quote.
